Plan9, Candidate for the Grand Prix d’Architecture de Wallonie 2021
17 Jul 2023A contemporary take on traditional architecture
A look back at one of our residential projects: House H, a contemporary house in Amay. The project was shortlisted for the Grand Prix d’Architecture de Wallonie 2021, in the Single-Family Housing category.
Built on a sloping site, the house overlooks the Meuse Valley. Its architecture offers a contemporary interpretation of the principles of traditional housing.
The pitched roof reinforces this connection with traditional architecture, while the clean lines give the project its contemporary character.
The upper volume is clad in untreated timber and rests on a base made of long, slender bricks. This interplay of volumes and materials creates an architecture that is both understated and distinctive.
Large openings frame views of the surrounding landscape while bringing generous natural light into the heart of the living spaces.
Tradition and modernity are not opposites. They work together to create a home that is closely connected to its surroundings.
As the Union Wallonne des Architectes described it on the occasion of the GPWA:
“Plan9, an architecture practice, designed a contemporary home that reinterprets the principles of traditional architecture.”
A wonderful recognition for this project. It reflects an approach that is central to Plan9: designing thoughtful architecture that responds to its context, its uses and the people who live within it.
